FBI Forms Domestic Communications Assistance Center for Net Surveillance on Americans
FBI had asked all social networking sites, especially Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ to give details about their users if there be such need. These sites will be in violation of the law if they refuse to comply with the FBI’s requests for such personal information. Now, the better to deal with people and their information on social media, FBI has formed its own special unit dealing with internet and its online communication called the Domestic Communications Assistance Center.
The purpose behind this unit would be to hire hi-tech experts who could create technologies whereby communications could be tapped into on these social networks. The fund of $54 million has been allocated for the needs of the unit. Hence, there was already surveillance on the American citizens while they were out on streets, now in their homes through their internet access devices, net surveillance could be made on them. Such moves as this by the FBI are part of the slow, but stead process of policing people into law-abiding citizens. But on the other hands, it creates conflicts with their Constitutional rights and their freedom.
However, they are not calling it a direct spying, but rather through technologies would help state and law enforcement agencies to intercept, decrypt, and analyse communications data. May be to them these things fall out of the definition of spying. But the fact that this news has gotten no coverage by the mainstream media shows the fact that no public debate has been held and definitely it is something to which the public opinion will be in favour. These acts by the government depict it as a dictatorial state and the saddest fact is that no one in the government circles realizes or accepts it to be so.
