Capturing time through different media has always been an aim for human societies, in order to record for later generations that essence of the era we live in currently. Something of the same idea has come to NASA, who wants to video time capsules for future humans. Recently, Venus has come between the sun and the earth and it will next do that in the year 2117, which is a long time from now.

Who knows with the pace the world is changing at currently, what would happen. Hence, Tongal, which is a crowdsourced video competition website, has asked collaboration from NASA to create “2012 Venus Transit Video Time Capsule” contest. Tongal is a great website where different campaigns can get their video-hand so to speak and generate public interest in their cause. The winning videos will be then be made into professional videos. There is something very sci-fi about this.

Because a lot many films and novels based on such sci-fi theme as that of having time capsules capture an year and later to reflect back, most of the time there is criticism of how primitive societies had been. But for this Venus videos, the one thing to note for technology enthusiasts of future would be of the quality of camera and film-making techniques. Every quarter of a year we see new technology of filmmaking emerging through different cameras and their features. 2117, it would be a treat to watch back these.
