Device Created to Generate and Store Human Energy from Knees
Energy efficiency is very important these days. Scientists are continuously on a search for better alternative means of harnessing energy. Recently, researchers from the three of the UK universities have come up with a way beyond imagination. They have simply tried to generate energy from human knees. Sounds impossible and makes it difficult to think we are moving around with energy in our knees. This is something that utilizes the life-force and vitalism.
Every time we take a step, our knee flexes and bends and the researchers thought that in such a locomotive action too much energy is being wasted, which can be fixed. They developed a device called “pizzicato knee-joint energy harvester” – a large number for such an important human energy saving idea – that could be worn and through strolling stores energy. The machine costs $15, but has not been introduced in the markets.
The details of the gadgets and its specific features as detailed by Gizmag are these:
“Known as the pizzicato knee-joint energy harvester, the device fits onto the outside of the knee. It is circular, and consists of a central hub equipped with four protruding arms, surrounded by an outer ring bearing 72 plectra (a plectrum is a plucking tool, such as a guitar pick). The ring rotates about a quarter of a turn with every bend of the knee, causing the plectra to pluck the arms. This causes the arms to vibrate (not unlike a guitar string), and it’s those vibrations that are used to generate electrical energy.”
