Euro 2012 tournament is round the corner and football fans could not wait for it to begin. Watching every second of the games sitting constantly in front of the TV costs electricity bills. To tackle this age-old expensive problem, a few students from Harvard University have come up with their own solution. They have devised a brilliant idea that meets both ends by enjoying football as well as having electricity.

They have created a conceptual football, called Soccket, that will generate electricity while being kicked around in the air. The forces which are put on the football will be utilized instead. There is a magnet which quickly oscillates once the ball is in motion. This oscillation creates power through a motor and electricity is stored in an on-board battery. Through an AC Adaptor fitted behind one of the panels of this Soccket, many other appliances can be powered.

The students believe that at least devices like mobile phones can be charges as well as lights could be powered. What more is needed when there is a football match on. These students have also expressed generous thoughts behind their invention saying that they want football fans in the third world countries where electricity supply is still an issue, they can use this Soccket to the best of their advantage. The only issue that could arise is the functionality of the football itself, because while playing could having such a wiring affect the play? But this has to be put to test and the whole idea is worth testing certainly.
