Automatic System Detects and Repairs Roads

The researchers at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) have come up with an automatic pavement crack detection and repair system. It is really innovative and useful to have such a machine around that can detect cracks and repair roads at the same time and all that automatically. Road resurfacing involves tearing up old tarmac and repairing roadbeds. Then laying down a new surface. All of this is both expensive and time-consuming. With this new system developed by the researchers all of this could be done with less money and time spent. It is important to avoid traffic jams and also to avoid accidents.

The system developed by the GTRI also identifies, maps, detects and repairs roads. Also from an environmental and health point of views, it is important that such systematic machines be introduced in all major cities, because it will help get rid of the fumes that come out in the process of laying down an asphalt road. Also the labour work would be saved too. At this moment, the system is being tried to detect cracks and make simple repairs.

But the researchers hope to take it to the next step of repairing and building major roads. It will be a revolution in the concrete and construction industries. The current machine has been built for smaller tasks only, but later bigger ones would be made to deal with large roads. The system only needs one operator to handle the functioning of the machine.
