Seaweed Microbe Can Fight Tooth Decay Better
Keeping dental hygiene is of utmost importance, because through oral channel a lot of the diseases can get in. Tooth decay is the worst that can happen with a bad dental health. Most of the tooth paste available these days, though do use chemicals but claim that they also carry pure herbal extracts of such things as the neem tree, aloe vera, cocoa, etc. New research suggests that microbes fight microbes.
This new discovery can lead researchers to effectively come out with further and better oral hygiene products. The bacteria that a dental plaque has can colonies very fast in areas where fighters cannot get in. But essentially doctors admit it is very hard to keep all of these bacteria out because of the hard reaching areas in the mouth. The bacteria are very smart to keep itself safe in the mouth by creating a biofilm which keeps it away from being rooted out.
The new medical research shows that the new enzyme, which is found in the seaweed, can break down this biofilm and thus attack the bacteria. Further studies are being conducted on this enzyme so that in future that too can be made part of our oral hygiene products. More details on this new development have been presented by the Society for Applied Microbiology Summer. Till any more new healthier dental products are available in the market, the best way we can fight cavities is to keep away from eating too much sweets.
